NY HIV Research Centers Consortium Releases Recommendations for Future Directions in HIV Research

NDRI’s Center for Drug Use and HIV Research (CDUHR) is a founding member of the New York HIV Research Centers Consortium. The Consortium consists of 22 Centers in the New York area engaged in HIV-related research, and has the mission of enhancing scientific knowledge of the HIV/AIDS epidemic by facilitating inter-institutional, multi-disciplinary collaborations by scientists affiliated with its member Centers. The Consortium recently released the Proceedings from its May 2005 Scientific Conference “Identifying Future Directions in International Research”. It includes abstracts from the plenary presentations and recommendations for future international research developed by Topic and Regional Workgroups. The conference brought together over 170 researchers from the Consortium Centers and NY-area Fogarty International Center funded AIDS International Training and Research Programs. Another recent product of the work of the Consortium was published in the January/February 2006 issue of the Journal of Urban Health, in a section on “HIV Perspectives After 25 Years.” This includes six articles emanating from the Consortium’s first Scientific Conference, which provided recommendations for urgent and emergent research needs in the epidemic.
