NDRI’s SOAR registered on SAMHSA'S
Evidence-Based Program & Practices

NDRI’s Service Outreach and Recovery (SOAR) has been registered on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Registry for Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). Developed and evaluated by Stephen Magura, PhD and NDRI’s Andrew Rosenblum, PhD, SOAR is an evidence-based multicomponent program for indigent and residentially unstable adults with drug and alcohol problems. Utilizing manual-directed group sessions (based on CBT and motivational interviewing principles) and peer support, SOAR is designed to reduce substance use and increase participation in formal substance abuse treatment programs and 12-step self-help fellowships such as AA and NA..

Evaluation of the efficacy of SOAR “Service Outreach to Homeless Drug Users at HIV/TB Risk” (R01DA010188), was funded at NDRI by the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health.
